Ex-Microsoft employee: Conker game not on the cards, but expect Perfect Dark and Banjo soon

A Reddit user who claims to be an ex-Microsoft employee has alleged that a Conker’s Bad Fur Day reboot was on the cards at Microsoft before being abandoned due to a short turnaround time.

The user also claims that we’ll see new Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie games from Microsoft in the coming years.

Reddit’s certain_ability says that Microsoft offered a Conker’s reboot to Insomniac Games, developer of the recent Sunset Overdrive, but the studio turned it down due to a short lead time.

“For a while, it really looked like Insomniac would take on the Conker reboot,” the user said. “They were already doing third-party stuff for Microsoft, and they had made a hit platformer series in the past.

“However, Insomniac turned Microsoft down too. Apparently Microsoft wanted Conker to hit store shelves by the end of 2015, and Insomniac refused because of the short development cycle. MS wanted Conker out the door really quickly, because they wanted to reintroduce audiences to a bunch of older IPs for 2016/17, like Perfect Dark and Banjo.”

The Microsoft-owned Rare is working on a number of unannounced games. It’s assumed Battletoads is among them, due to recent teases of its characters.
