Resident Evil 7’s demo (available today!) is based on the PlayStation VR “Kitchen” experience of last year

Capcom has confirmed that the Resident Evil 7 demo, available today for PlayStation Plus subscribers, is based off of the PlayStation VR “Kitchen” experience of last year.

You know, the one where a monster tortured you as you were tied to a chair in a kitchen? Yeah. That one.

“Resident Evil 7 embodies the series’ signature gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago; meanwhile, a complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to the next level,” Capcom said of the full game.

“Terrifying fans at events across the globe last year, the PlayStation VR “KITCHEN” tech demo was developed utilizing the RE Engine’s VR oriented tools, and is the foundation on which the talented Resident Evil team has crafted the immersive horror experience in Resident Evil 7,” Capcom continued. “Powered by the RE Engine in tandem with industry leading audio and visual technologies, Resident Evil 7 is poised to deliver a disturbingly realistic experience that will define the next era in horror entertainment.”

A non-VR PS4 demo is available for Plus subscribers from today, though additional demos will be available later on for PlayStation VR and on Xbox One and Windows PC platforms.

We’ll let you know when you can grab the demo.

Update: Aussies can grab the demo here (thanks, Bradley!).
