Countdown: 2016’s top PC-exclusive games

The chance to try out an Alienware 17 R4 has given me a newfound appreciation of PC gaming. Rather than sticking to Xbox Play Anywhere titles like Forza Horizon 3 or ReCore, I thought it better to expand my horizons, delving into the world of PC exclusives.

Here are the 5 PC exclusive titles, all released in 2016, that I placed at the top of my ‘To play’ list.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI

I had a crack at the latest in the Civ series ahead of release, and remarked that it felt like Civilization V DLC – not that more of that is a bad thing.

In our review, Harry said that’s simply not the case; Civilization VI is a game unto its own, offering innovation that seems like the logical next step in the franchise.

This one’s not likely to make an appearance on consoles, so best to jump in now so you can while away hours and hours straight away.

Star Citizen

The game that never stops earning crowdfunding dollars and continues to keep tacking on content — Star Citizen — is available to try in alpha.

Functionality in the game’s alpha 2.5 release includes 8 Comm Array missions, over 20 random encounters, bounties, and lots more. It looks like a complicated-but-not version of Elite: Dangerous, and I’m keen to try it out.

Master of Orion

Available in early access for a long while now, Wargaming’s Master of Orion reboot scratched an itch that the likes of Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth simply couldn’t.

Truthfully, it’s the Star Trek fan in me that really loves Master of Orion, with multiple cameos made by heroes I’ve looked up to for years. The opportunity to simulate play as a member of Starfleet or the Federation itself doesn’t hurt either.

Yes, before you mention it – there seems to be a bit of a pattern forming when it comes to my taste in PC games. Sci-fi for the win!
