Nintendo Switch: Online service fee priced at around $30 USD for one year

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed with Japanese newspaper Nikkei that the Switch’s annual multiplayer fee will be approximately $30 USD.

Kimishima priced the Switch’s online charge — akin to that of Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus — at somewhere between 2,000-3,00 yen, or approximately $20-30 USD. To compare, a year of Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus is priced at $60 USD.

The charge will allow for online play and a free game each month — though, unlike Xbox or PlayStation, players will only have access to that gifted game for one month. Perhaps you get what you pay for?

The Nintendo Switch hits store shelves on 3 March. We’ll inform you about Australian subscription prices when they’re known.
