NES Classic Mini hacked to add more games like Battletoads

Not one, but two, hacking groups last week have figured out a way to sideload additional NES games to the NES Classic Mini.

The hack — and make no mistake, that’s what it is — can be performed without the need to disassemble the mini console.

If you’re keen, you’ll first need to create a save file in Super Mario Bros‘ first save slot, according to the Reddit NESClassicMods community. Then, use a micro-USB cable to connect your Classic Mini to your PC, and boot in “FEL” mode by holding the NES Classic Mini’s reset button and then pressing the power button from a powered-off state. You’ll need to run a sunxi-FEL interface on your computer.

From there, it’s a matter of copying your NES Classic Mini data to your PC, then modifying and adding new files and ROMS, all provided here.

Do all the above at your own risk. If you even have an NES Classic Mini, that is.
