Nintendo addresses a lack of female board members

As part of Nintendo’s 76th annual General Meeting of Shareholders, both President Tatsumi Kimishima and Creative Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto addressed a lack of female members on the publishers board.

“We don’t have any females [on the board],” Kimishima confirmed, as translated by Cheesemeister for NintendoEverything.

Kimishima used Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé to show there was some diversity amongst the board of the company, primarily based in Japan.

“For foreigners, Reggie is an operating officer,” he said.

Despite a lack of female board members, both Kimishima and Miyamoto stressed the importance of females within the company.

“There are many female employees, and their opinions are applied in product development,” Kimishima said. “It’s important that we continue taking their opinions in dev.”

“There being no female directors was criticized, but I think their contributions as development staff are world-class,” Miyamoto added.

What do you think of the above? Can we take the translation at face value, or should we allow for a language barrier, coupled with cultural differences in Japan as compared to the west?
