Wii U, 3DS eShops to close in March 2023

You'll still be able to redownload purchased titles, however.

Both the Wii U and 3DS eShops will close for good in March 2023, Nintendo has today advised.

With the news, Nintendo has stressed that those who’ve already purchased digital Wii U and 3DS will be able to redownload titles past that date, but new purchases will not be possible.

While the eShops will firmly close in March 2023, Nintendo has also advised that customers will no longer be able to use a credit card to add funds to either eShop beyond 23 May 2022. Moreover, Nintendo eShop Cards will no longer be permissible on the storefronts from 29 August 2022.

“Users who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the Nintendo Switch family of systems) can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until late March 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems,” the publisher continued.

As way of an apology, Nintendo has also created a 3DS and Wii U Memories website that will let players peruse their past play histories.
