Microsoft’s latest Xbox One update has greatly improved game and app download performance.
Those on high-speed connections of 100Mbps or more should experience an 80% increase in download speeds, while those with less than 100Mbps — that is, most non-NBN Australians — will experience speeds 40% faster than before.
Microsoft does point out that “download speeds will be influenced by network contention within the home and at the ISP level.”
It’s also worth noting that custom DNS settings may impact download performance. Users of NeoGAF suggest changing your Xbox One’s DNS to a Google-provided one like 8.8.8.8, but it’s best to check with your ISP to see if this will impact any unmetered data plans you may be subscribed to.
