It’s EB Expo time, which means this humble reporter is in Sydney covering all the latest and greatest titles to come from the likes of Ubisoft, Bethesda and Microsoft.
It also means I have a lot of downtime for appointments — AKA, the perfect time to get into some Destiny in on my Xbox One.
I hear what you’re saying: “But how? Hotel internet usually requires a password, or at least a confirmation — how can you play Xbox One whilst away from home?”
It’s simple, my friends — MAC spoofing. Here’s what you need to do.
- Pick a device that can access your hotel wifi, and basically sacrifice it. No, seriously — that device won’t be able to use wifi soon, but it’ll pave the way for your console.
- On that device — I used my iPhone — connect to the hotel wifi as normal. Do whatever approval process is required to connect.
- On that same device, go into settings (on iPhone, it’s Settings > General > About > Wi-Fi Address) and find your wifi MAC address.
- On your Xbox One, head into Settings > Network > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate MAC address > Manual.
- Enter in the MAC address from your first device. If you’re getting errors, try typing in letters and numbers only (not “.”, “:”” or “-“).
Voila! Your Xbox One should now have internet capability because it’s fooled the hotel router into thinking it’s your first device. Easy done!
Be aware that you can’t try to connect to wifi using your original device, or it breaks the chain. Also be aware that you should clear out that spoofed MAC address when you’re back at home. To do so, go to Settings > Network > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate MAC address > Clear on your Xbox One.
