Destiny: “Rise of Iron”: All you need to know for go-live tonight

Destiny‘s newest expansion, “Rise of Iron”, goes live tonight and we’ve all you need to know to jump into things and kick ass with the Iron Lords.

Let’s get straight into it, shall we?

What time can I play?

The update will go live with Destiny‘s daily reset. Here are the times that occurs:

  • Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania: 7.00 pm
  • South Australia, Northern Territory: 6.30 pm
  • Western Australia: 5.00 pm
  • New Zealand: 9.00 pm
  • All other regions of the world: Click here

How do I download the content?

If you’ve played Destiny within the last week, you probably already have. A 10GB or so update was released in the last few days, and that contained the assets of “Rise of Iron”. To make sure that’s the case, just load up the game — if you’re prompted for any patches or downloads, get to ’em quick. Then, you wait.

Of course, downloading the update doesn’t mean you can access the content — you’ll also have to buy the expansion here on PS4 or here on Xbox One.

Are there pre-order bonuses?

Yep — the Iron Gjallarhorn and the Gjallarwing Sparrow.

How can I best level up before “Rise of Iron”?

Bounties, my friends. Bounties.

Head down to The Tower and grab as many as you can from Xander 99-40, or from Berg 99-40 on The Reef. The goal is to accomplish as many as you can ahead of the release of “Rise of Iron”, but in a smart way. Complete as many bounties as you can today, but don’t turn them in until you’ve got a paper and pen handy, ready to do some math.

Your ultimate goal is to level up your Vanguard, Crucible and Faction Reputation after the release of “Rise and Iron”, and that’s because you’ll get a handsome rewards package when you level up. Turn in as many bounties as you can today without actually levelling up your Reputation. Got that?

To speed this up, you can still get infected by the Owl Sector ARG for XP boosts today. As examples, bounties that normally offer up 50XP will offer up 62XP with the boost.

Be smart. Plan ahead. Remember that Crucible matches will also gain you XP, so factor that all in as well.

How can I best level up before “Rise of Iron”?

Well, turn in those bounties and level your Reputation up, for a start.

Once you’ve done that, go and start playing the game. You’ll get XP and new loot as you play. With your newly acquired Engrams, remember to decrypt them one at a time. If you get an item with a higher level of Light than you currently have, equip it immediately; when you decrypt the next item, the likelihood of it having an even higher Light level increases as you increase your character’s base.

It’s a good idea to leave a bunch of item slots open on your character as you play; at times, new content doesn’t work exactly as designed and you may miss out on items you can’t collect.

Legendary Marks are your friend.

Stock up on Legendary Marks. You can get those with certain in-game events (Strikes, etc), and by deconstructing Legendary items. Aim to have 200 in the bank ahead of “Rise of Iron”.

If you’ve extra Legendary items you don’t need, don’t deconstruct them! Instead, keep them in the Vault for now. When you spend Legendary Marks, break items down to top up your levels.

Anything else?
