A Half-Life: 3 poster greets attendees outside the entrance to Gamescom in Germany this week, but after a double-take it’s nothing more than an excellent troll.
It doesn’t read Half-Life 3, but rather Half-Life: 3. That colon makes all the difference, and is a long-running gag with Half-Life 3 trolls.
The image was snapped by Eurogamer’s Aoife Wilson on Twitter reading “Half-Life: 3 Redakteure, die es damals gespielt haben”. Google translate turns that into “Half-Life: 3 Editors who played it back then”.

So it’s a classic prank about three editors playing the original Half-Life. VG247 reports it was paid for by German companies GIGA games and Spieletipps.
