No Man’s Sky: Day one update available early, but don’t expect timely Australian reviews

No Man’s Sky day one patch is actually a day zero patch, now available a day earlier than the game itself.

The 824MB update, version 1.03, is available now on PS4, offering a number of changes that we detailed yesterday.

Stevivor — and seemingly, all other Australian outlets — have yet to receive a copy of No Man’s Sky from Sony to review. Considering the depth of the game, we don’t expect to have a review ready any time soon. European sites like VG24/7 have stated they have received review copies at this time, but even they concede timely reviews will be difficult. It’s unclear at this time as to why Australia has been neglected.

Meanwhile, Hello Games’ Sean Murray has acknowledged the game will be “super divisive”, and not for everyone.

“If you hoped for things like pvp multiplayer or city building, piloting freighters, or building civilisations… that isn’t what No Man’s Sky is,” he wrote. “Over time it might become some of those things through updates.

“If you decide to play it, you’ll see just how closely it plays to… trailers, and to our original vision. It’s a weird game, it’s a niche game and it’s a very very chill game.”

Are you planning to buy No Man’s Sky on day one, or are you holding off to see if the hype matches the actual game?

No Man’s Sky will be available digitally on PS4 from 7.00 pm 12.01 am AEST, 10 August (Update: Steve is bad at math). It heads to Windows PC in three more days.
