Battlefield 1’s open beta: All you need to know

The Battlefield 1 open beta will soon debut on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4, and we’ve got all you need to know right here.

When does it start?

The Battlefield 1 open beta is currently scheduled for 31 August at a time yet to be revealed (we’ll update, of course, when we know more). It’s likely that date will actually be more like 1 September here in Australia.

Battlefield Insiders have already been sent codes to play early, those lucky dogs.

Update: Insider access started at 2.00 am AEST today, 31 August. It’s not yet known at what time today the open beta starts for the rest of us.

What can I play?

Like we did at Gamescom, you’ll be able to play two modes on the Sinai Desert map.

Conquest

A mode where up to 64 players, over two teams, fight for control over key objective markers. Check it out in action below:

Rush

A mode where up to 24 players, over two teams, take turns on attack and defense. Failure to defend points means you’ll have to fall back and defend new points. Check it out in action below:

Do I need Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus?

It’s been confirmed that PlayStation Plus is not required to play, but we don’t yet have that same confirmation regarding Microsoft’s Xbox Live system.

That said — and considering the Xbox One is Battlefield 1‘s lead console — we’re going to assume you won’t need Gold either.

Over on PC (we haven’t forgotten you), you will need an Origin account, as the open beta is through EA’s platform.

For all platforms, you will need a persistent internet connection.

Update: You actually DO need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access the open beta. Sorry, folks!

Does any progress carry over into the full game?

Nope. Sorry!
