Destiny’s departure from PS3, Xbox 360: Here’s what you need to know

Destiny is losing quite a lot of support in the coming months, and we’ve all the information Guardians on Xbox 360 and PS3 need to know.

First off, Destiny‘s next expansion, “Rise of Iron”, will not be available on last-gen consoles. The decision allows Bungie to focus on current-gen consoles and further iterations of its MMO shooter.

All’s not lost — those on last-gen will be able to use an account importer from August 2016. It will allow a Guardian to move from PS3 to PS4, or Xbox 360 to Xbox One. Cross-platform import is not supported.

The import means that you’ll need to use the same gamertag between last- and current-gen, and sadly, it also means you’ll need to buy Destiny and all associated DLC on current-gen if you don’t already own it. Those who import their Guardians will retain character data, progression data, gear, inventory, purchased Silver and any Eververse licenses.

If you don’t choose to continue your Destiny journey on current-gen, you’re still able to to play what’s there on last-gen versions. Keep in mind, though, that events like Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner will not be available from August on Xbox 360 and PS3.

The events that will continue on last-gen include Daily Heroic Missions, Weekly Heroic Strikes and Nightfall Strikes, Daily and Weekly Crucible Featured Playlists as well as the Weekly Crucible Bounties, all current Raids, all current Prison of Elders and Challenge of Elders events and Armsday orders through the Gunsmith. Xur will continue to visit on weekends, though with a very cut-down inventory as compared to current-gen consoles.

For more information, head to Bungie’s import support site.

Destiny’s “Rise of Iron” expansion heads to Xbox One and PS4 on 20 September.
