Destiny “Rise of Iron” is coming 20 September

Bungie took to Twitch in the wee hours of this morning to announce the new Destiny “Rise of Iron” expansion and break some potentially tragic news for players on last generation consoles: after “Rise of Iron” Destiny will be current gen only.

Destiny “Rise of Iron” will see players venturing out past the wall and fighting their way up Felwinters Peak to reclaim the Iron Temple, home of the fallen Iron Lords. The Lords sacrificed themselves fighting CEVA, a technological plague that is now being used by the Fallen to augment themselves in to machine gods.

The expansion will take players to three new locations; The Plaguelands, a new social space at Felwinters Peak and The Wall in Old Russia where players first began their Destiny journey. It’s set to feature a new and as yet unnamed raid, new and updated strikes and a bunch of new patrols and public events.

We’ll learn more about these as well as the new Crucible features as Bungie drip feeds us all across the next few months. As well as hosting more of their own live streams, Bungie will be popping up during the E3 conferences of other developers (most likely Sony) to tease us with more tidbits about the upcoming expansion.

Destiny‘s “Rise of Iron” expansion is set to launch 20 September on PS4 and Xbox One. It will be comparable in size to “House of Wolves” and will retail at around $40 AUD.
