Ubisoft has handed the 1666 IP back to former employer and Assassin’s Creed Creative Director Patrice Désilets.
Désilets worked on 1666 at THQ before the publisher fell to bankruptcy. Désilets made a brief return to Ubisoft and worked on the project there as the French publisher bought the IP in THQ’s demise. Désilets left Ubisoft again shortly afterward, leaving 1666 in limbo.
No longer, as Désilets took to Twitter to celebrate:
Friends, Ubi and I agreed, I got it back! :) https://t.co/lKqj5enJth #1666Amsterdam pic.twitter.com/Z19MLwdgEY

Désilets said he’ll continue to work on Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey at his studio, Panache Digital Games. It’s assumed he’ll work on 1666 afterward.
“This is what matters most to me today: making the best games and showing the world the creative talent of Quebecers,” Désilets said. “I also wish every success to the Ubisoft teams.”
We’ll have more on 1666 as it becomes available.
