Meet the Guitar Hero MMO that never came to be

The plastic peripheral business was so big back in 2010 that Activision was planning a Hero MMO that would have tied Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and more together.

Unseen 64 recently released footage of the title, called Hero World, as you can see below:

It would have tied into myriad console titles alongside a new Facebook game, in admittedly rather ingenious ways. First, you’d be tasked to run a nightclub inside the MMO that had a goal to attract as many NPC patrons as possible. To do so, you’d need to book acts through a new Guitar Hero, headlined by actual players. To keep your club alive, you’d also have to dance-off against would-be competitor players.

In the end, the bubble burst before Activision and its various studios could bring the concept to fruition.

The latest in the Hero series, Guitar Hero Live is now available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and Wii U.
