Sega today advised of authorised ROM hacks for classic Genesis and Mega Drive classics on Steam.
“Steam Workshop functionality is a platform to share the wealth of custom Mega Drive & Genesis ROMs out there and support the highly talented and engaged community of modders behind them,” Sega Community Manager Daniel Sheridan advised on Sega’s blog.
“Now content creators can easily share their custom ROMs with other Mega Drive & Genesis fans giving a new perspective on so many beloved retro titles.”
Examples of the ROM hacks include playing as Knuckles in the original Sonic the Hedgehog, and one where Tim Allen’s weird Home Improvement noise replaces Streets of Rage 2‘s death noise.
