Development on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, 3DS has ended

Super Smash Bros.’ Game Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has confirmed development on the game has now ended.

Its latest bit of content, fighters Bayonetta and Corrin, is the game’s last.

Sakurai took to Famitsu (via Source Gaming) to make the confirmation.

“The last two DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U, Corrin and Bayonetta, are now available,” Sakurai said. “At long last, the development on Smash for 3DS/ Wii U has ended!! To all of the staff who were involved in this project, thank you for all your hard work. To all who supported and followed the game and its development, thank you so very much. Personally, I’m happy I can finally take an extended vacation.

“I’ve said this before, but excluding Lucas and Roy, who are returning veterans, every DLC character has unique mechanics and playstyles. Corrin transforms into a dragon and boasts incredible reach. Bayonetta utilizes special combos, her Bullet Arts, Witch Time, and even speaks in both English and Japanese.”

There are rumors that Super Smash Bros. is currently being developed for a release on the upcoming Nintendo NX.
