New Destiny update fixes weapons parts shortage by offering them for sale

Bungie’s weekly update this week outlined some of the changes being made in the upcoming November patch for Destiny. The October update reduced the drop rate for weapons parts, a valuable resource for weapon upgrades, and now the November update will fix that. No, not by increasing the drop rate, that would be too logical. Instead Bungie is going to let you buy them from a new weapon parts dealer using Glimmer, one of the many different currencies in the game.

Bungie’s current M.O seems to be ‘break something, sort of fix something’ when it comes to patching Destiny, though it did hint that the December update will give you a use for Etheric Light and Worm Spore, two of the currencies made redundant through various updates.

If you are invested in Destiny you are probably have to just grin and bear yet another economy adjustment regardless of how fair it is to players. Bungie get a lot of credit for tinkering with their loot model to improve the experience, but when they create a shortage like this then fix it by charging players to buy what they used to get in drops, they really don’t deserve any kudos. On the bright side, at least Glimmer isn’t purchaseable through microtransactions. Yet.
