Video game voice actors’ union authorises strike over working conditions

SAG-AFTRA, the union representing video game voice actors, has authorised the union’s national board to call a strike.

Union members voted on whether or not to strike over working conditions in the industry, and 96.5% of those who voted were in favour of the action.

“It is important to note that the referendum result does not mean that members are on strike, rather, it gives the National Board the authority to declare a strike,” the union said. “A 75% ‘yes’ vote was required to give the National Board that authority. With this result in hand, the Negotiating Committee will seek to return to the bargaining table and continue to press for a fair resolution on behalf of performers working in video games.”

SAG-AFTRA planss to ask publishers like Activision, EA, Warner Bros., Disney and others to go back to discussions over working conditions. Previous discussions in February and June this year were unsuccessful.

We’ll keep you informed as this situation continues to develop.

Thanks, Variety.
