Microsoft: We expect “tens of millions” of Xbox 360 owners to migrate to Xbox One following backwards compatibility

When Xbox 360 backwards compatibility launches for Xbox One on 12 November, Microsoft is expecting big things to follow.

Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg told GameSpot that Microsoft is expecting a “pretty massive migration this holiday” of Xbox 360 fans who have not yet upgraded. He continued, “There’s tens of millions of Xbox 360 fans that are out there that are still playing on Xbox 360 and they’re waiting for the right time and the right reason to migrate over to Xbox One.”

Greenberg thinks that the combination of Halo 5 and backwards compatibility could be that reason. At launch of the service, Microsoft is promising 100 backwards compatible titles, however a definitive list is not yet available. “On the first-party side, with our content, we’ve said that we’re doing everything we can to make our first-party games lineup available,” Greenberg said, adding, “on the third-party side, we’re making this available to all our third-party partners to participate.”

Will backwards compatibility get you to upgrade to Xbox One?
