Xbox Elite controller gets a release date; boss Spencer says it and the Elite console aren’t for everyone

The Xbox One Elite controller will be sold separately from the end of October, Microsoft recently announced.

Available from 27 October, the Elite controller gets a headstart on the 1TB, solid state drive Xbox One Elite console bundle, available in early November.

Speaking with IGN, Xbox’s Phil Spencer said the Elite stuff wasn’t for everyone.

“We should always make sure we have something for the discerning customer who wants the very best we’ll be able to offer, and I want to give them that opportunity,” Spencer said. “If you’re really happy [with your Xbox One console] you should go try [Xbox Elite], but it really wasn’t meant to try and flip you from the setup you have now. It will be faster, but I don’t know it would be fast enough to say that you’d want to go off and spend hundreds of dollars to do that.”

The Xbox One Elite controller will retail for $179.95 AUD.
