Neil Druckmann on The Last of Us 2 and Naughty Dog’s future after Uncharted 4

Rumours have been swirling lately regarding The Last of Us 2 and speaking with Official PlayStation Magazine (via GamesRadar) Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has sought to set the record straight.

Druckmann admits that the team were prototyping a sequel to The Last of Us, but when he and Bruce Straley took over Uncharted 4 the entire company’s focus shifted onto Drake’s latest adventure.

“The answer is – and this is totally honest, and I’ve said this in the past – that when Bruce (Straley) and I moved over to Uncharted 4, we were brainstorming ideas for The Last Of Us 2 with new characters; ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie; ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas. And just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4.”

When Nolan North commented that he knew The Last of Us 2 was being made, Druckmann said he read it and laughed thinking “Oh he knows more than we know [about] what we’re doing next.”

Druckmann finishes up the interview by saying that the prototypes still exist, but he’s far too focused on Uncharted to even think about anything else and that whatever he works on next will be a mystery to him until at least a few months after Uncharted 4 is released.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be available for PS4 18 March 2016.
