Guerrilla Games is keeping mum on all things Horizon: Zero Dawn

In this current age of overhyped, PR driven lead-ups to games with a dozen new trailers per week, it’s refreshing to see Guerrilla Games, developer of upcoming Horizon: Zero Dawn, keeping quiet about its game.

Speaking with PlayM Deutsch, Senior Producer Mark Norris explained why Guerrilla is keeping its cards close to its chest with Horizon, pointing to both Star Wars and Fallout 4 as examples he’s not looking to follow. “I always talk a lot about Vault 111 and they showed in the trailer when the bomb struck. I said, ‘No, why did you do that?” It ruined the whole mystery for me.”

Regarding Star Wars, Norris believes that explaining the Force with midichlorians was a huge mistake, that once again ruined the mystery.

“For the entire media and marketing campaign we had ample discussions with the executives at Sony, who said that the people want the story and have asked why we won’t to tell you anything,” he said. “They wanted us to say other things that they need more information, we would have to reveal the territories. But we have said that we will not do that.”

Norris thinks that players will enjoy the title much more if they discover everything for themselves as they play. He promises that by playing “You will know everything about the Old Ones and you will also find out where the machines are and why. You will also learn about the relationship between Aloy and the machine. But I’m not going to say anything about it in advance. Players should experience it all themselves and find out.”

Horizon: Zero Dawn will be available for PS4 in 2016.
