CD Projekt Red reveals development cost of The Witcher 3, says it was a good investment

In a video summarising the first half of 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red has revealed exactly how much the title cost to develop and that it is quite pleased with the profit generated thus far.

CEO Adam Kicinski made the financial briefing presentation and revealed that the total cost to developand market The Witcher 3 was $81 million USD (roughly $114 million AUD). To put this in perspective, The Old Republic reportedly cost $200 million USD to develop while estimates put GTAV’s development and marketing budget at $265 million USD.

The Witcher 3 was developed by 240 in-house staff across 18 nationalities. In total, 1,500 people across the globe worked on the title or were involved in production in one form or another. In the most recent financial period for the developer, it made an operating profit of $63.5 million USD; a majority of which came from sales of The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The first expansion — “Hearts of Stone” will be available 13 October.
