When you first heard about Telltale Games making an episodic Minecraft series, you probably had a pretty clear picture of what that game would be like. Telltale’s formula is well known (and worn) at this point thanks to their successful The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and The Wolf Among Us series. You talk to people, make difficult decisions and frequently get a new understanding of the horror of man. While that last part might be toned down for Minecraft: Story Mode, the rest is exactly what you would think a Telltale Minecraft game would be. Check out the trailer:

Reactions have been mixed, to say the least. The game itself looks fine, fun and interesting and graphically it reminds me of how the Lego games take that simple aesthetic and do so much with it. On the other hand Minecraft is a game about building and imagination, it seems like many players don’t want to be told a story in this world.
I’m a fan of Telltale but completely understand anybody suffering fatigue for their distinct brand of adventure. Telltale games do work best with a fresh audience and Minecraft certainly provides that. Minecraft: Story Mode will be available soon for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, PC, Mac, iOS and Android.
