Ubisoft: The addition of Evie to Syndicate wasn’t “to pay lip-service”

In an interview with Gamespot, Ubisoft Quebec’s Creative Director Marc-Alexis Cote spoke about the inclusion of Evie Fyre in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and that it hadn’t been done in response to the controversy surrounding Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s lack of female avatars.

“What I’d say is that they’ve both [Jacob and Evie] been part of the experience from the very beginning. Cynics will be cynics, and it’s unfortunate, but we’ve been so focused on build this game the way we want with those two characters. It’s not done to pay lip-service, it’s done to build a great game,” said Cote.

He explains that the idea of two playable characters was something the team was interested in from the perspective of a fresh and different gameplay experience, “When we were building this experience we asked ourselves ‘how can we make it feel new, how can we make it feel fresh, how do we avoid telling the same story?’ That’s where we came up with the idea of having two protagonists, which evolved into having twin protagonists, and a brother/sister relationship that we’ve never explored. That started two and a half years ago.”

There you have it, Evie was included from the beginning. What do you think?

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One 23 October 2015.
