Super Mario Maker’s got 99 amiibo but Mii Fighter ain’t one

Super Mario Maker looks better and better every day with the potential to be THE Wii U game to own. Yes, even over Mario Kart 8.

Now — thanks to the super sleuths at Vooks — we know that it will support 99 amiibo figurines. A feature of Super Mario Maker called Mario Costume, lets players tap amiibo on the Wii U GamePad and create a costume for Mario based on the tapped amiibo. Meaning players will be able to effectively play as other Nintendo characters.

So far only 8 amiibo have been officially confirmed; Yoshi, Link, Bower, Peach, Kirby, Marth, Isabelle and Wii Fit Trainer. However, as noted by Vooks, the Japanese amiibo site has been updated and reveals that nearly every amiibo released and upcoming will work with Super Mario Maker. The list of compatible amiibo even includes those that didn’t work with Yoshi’s Woolly World; e.g. Pokémon amiibo.

Upcoming Animal Crossing amiibo (aside from Isabelle) aren’t included in the list as yet, however the site does state that some Animal Crossing figures and cards will be supported

At this stage the only amiibo ruled out are the Miis from Smash Bros.; Mii Fighter, Mii Brawler and Mii Gunner and Mii Swordfighter.

Super Mario Maker will be available exclusively for Wii U on 11 September 2015.
