Fan passion convinced Sony not to cancel The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian would most likely have been cancelled had it not been for the passion of fans, Shuhei Yoshida told EDGE in a recent interview.

The title was proving too ambitious for the PlayStation 3’s hardware and so was moved to PlayStation 4, but Yoshida has admitted that Sony would have stopped working on it if the passion from fans had died off. “If everyone stopped asking about it, probably we would have,” he said. “Having so many people asking us about the game was great encouragement for us to continue the development.”

Yoshida reiterated that Sony never lost faith in the development team or the vision of Game Director Fumito Ueda and that there was a desire to see the game finally released on PS4, but the fervor of helped keep the project alive.

The Last Guardian will be available exclusively for PS4 in 2016.
