EA Sports, Real Madrid announce three-year partnership

In Melbourne today, a new three-year partnership between EA Sports and Real Madrid was announced by both parties. As a result of the partnership, EA Sports will become the club’s official, exclusive, video game sponsor.

Real Madrid seemed a perfect fit for EA, as Simon Smith-Wright, Marketing Director Asia-Pacific at EA Sports explained.

“Their top stars always rank among the players with the most virtual goals scored,” Smith-Wright said. “In FIFA 15, EA Sports players have used Real Madrid to score 950 million goals.”

As a result of the partnership, in-game FIFA 16 goal celebrations will appear on the big screen at the real (pun intended) Real Madrid home stadium, Santiago Bernabéu. Season-long competitions will run alongside real-life games and an EA Sports area will be housed in the home stadium as well.

“It goes without saying that this is a great honour, but at the same time, a huge responsibility,” said Real Madrid’s Emilio Butragueño.

“Real Madrid have an international focus. We can’t let [fans] down. It’s so important to build alliances with partners who share our values and help us grow everyday,” he continued.

“This will bring us closer to fans who support us.”

Real Madrid players finished off the partnership press conference by getting hands-on with FIFA 16.

FIFA 16 will be available at the end of September on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
