Rare’s unannounced projects targeting “world class lighting” and a possible PC release

Two job ads placed on Rare’s website shed a little light on its upcoming, unannounced projects. It’s widely known that Rare is working on several titles, but little information has been revealed up until this point.

The two ads are for a Technical Lighting Artist and a Software Engineer – Rendering and they both give little clues as to what Rare is up to. One of the key responsibilities of the Technical Lighting Artist is to “Deliver world class lighting for an exciting new project” and the ad also mentions that “It’s a very exciting time at Rare and we are looking for a highly skilled Technical Lighting Artist to join us and create something special. We want to hear from people who have a passion for lighting and atmospherics balanced with a solid technical understanding of modern lighting and shading techniques.”

While not giving away anything specific, it does tell us that Rare is working on something with an “intense mood and atmosphere” and rich tone and depth. Banjo-Kazooie? Perfect Dark? Possibly.

The second ad is a little more telling as it states “Cross-platform development experience is also beneficial, including development on Windows.” This strongly suggests that Rare’s upcoming title(s) may also appear on Windows 10 much like Lionhead’s upcoming Fable Legends. With Microsoft’s recent focus on Windows 10 and applications for Xbox One it wouldn’t be surprising to see first-party titles make the jump.

We’ll find out more about Rare’s projects at E3.
