Nintendo will allow same-sex marriage in Fire Emblem Fates

Remember how in Fire Emblem Awakening Nintendo introduced a marriage system, but there was no option for same-sex relationships? Well in Fire Emblem Fates, all that is set to change.

In an interview with Polygon Nintendo confirmed the addition saying, “We believe that our gameplay experiences should reflect the diversity of the communities in which we operate and, at the same time, we will always design the game specifications of each title by considering a variety of factors, such as the game’s scenario and the nature of the game play.”

Three editions of the game will be made available, Conquest, Birthright and a digital edition. Conquest will feature a male character for players to and Birthright will include a female character. The digital edition will include both. The three editions will be sold separately in Japan and the US, but Nintendo isn’t ready to announce how the versions will work in other regions.

This is a huge step forward for Nintendo, especially considering how it handled Tomodachi Life.
