Nintendo quietly removes TVii from the Wii U in Australia

Nintendo cancelled TVii support for Australia, New Zealand and parts of Europe earlier this year and now the final remnants of the service that never was have been removed from the system. The latest Wii U update has removed the TVii icon from the menu bar, as demonstrated over at Vooks.

Watching television through consoles hasn’t proven as relevant to the Australian market as the US, largely due to a smaller takeup of cable television, and Nintendo’s inferior TVii system was something few would have found use for. I never even managed to get the Wii U to act as a remote for my TV. I doubt many will miss the feature and I hope Nintendo continues to focus on games rather than become an “All in one entertainment system (TM)”.
