One programmer doesn’t see console 4K visuals coming for a long, long time

How far away is 4K gaming? If you ask former Naughty Dog programmer John Hable, it might be three generations of console hardware away. In an interview with Gaming Bolt, Hable says it may be two generations before we see CG quality visuals in 4K, and another generation before consoles have the power to render in 4K.

A lot of people would question if consoles will even be around in three generations time, so the 4K dream may never become a reality in its current form. Even if the hardware does catch up, the budget required for 4K visuals would be astronomical, only worth the investment for the biggest studios and titles.

Until then, we’ll have to be happy with consoles that sit somewhere between 900p and 1080p. That fight will have to keep us going for a while longer.
