Microsoft reveals more details about HoloLens

Microsoft’s entry into the increasingly crowded VR market is HoloLens, and they are certainly using their unique position to push the device. At the Build conference this week, Microsoft demoed the headset technology and announced some important partnerships and support.

Microsoft’s big push for universal apps will benefit HoloLens, as all universal apps will be compatible with the Windows Holographic platform, which could then expand to Xbox One functionality once universal apps are supported on that platform later this year. Microsoft also announced a partnership with Unity, making games developed in the popular engine compatible with the HoloLens technology. You can find the full details at Eurogamer.

Like most of the VR headsets in development, little is known about release date or price for HoloLens, but it is taking a unique approach to the market and exploiting its advantage with Windows integration. We’ll see if that translates into something gamers want to spend their hard earned on over an Oculus or Sony’s Project Morpheus.
