EA’s new Need for Speed title is a current-gen reboot called Need for Speed

EA and Ghost Games today released a teaser and information on the next Need of Speed title, a reboot simply called Need for Speed.

The full reboot uses the same version of the Frostbite engine as Star Wars: Battlefront and will feature “deep customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative,” according to a press release today.

Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we’re returning it to greatness in this reboot,” said Marcus Nilsson of Ghost Games.

“Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We’re listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”

EA’s Speedhunters is assisting with development to ensure “real-world authenticity” with the game.

Need for Speed will be available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 this spring. We’ll have more on the game at this year’s E3.
