Will there be dedicated servers for Star Wars: Battlefront in Australia?

Star Wars: Battlefront has been unveiled and as a majority of people suspected, it’s largely a multiplayer game. With modes catering for offline single player, co-op, eight players and up to 40 players I wondered how the internet connections of Australian gamers would fare.

Speaking with DICE producer Craig McLeod, Stevivor informed him of out lackluster internet performance and quizzed him on whether we’d see dedicated servers for Battlefront down under. After all, the EA published Titanfall was the recipient of Australian based servers and that was a game limited to (at the time) Xbox One and one which didn’t carry the weight of the Star Wars franchise.

“Unfortunately, it’s too soon to say” was McLeod’s response, however he did say that more information on the issue would definitely be forthcoming in the lead up to Battlefront’s launch. I’m uncertain whether it was just my desire to see dedicated servers or McLeod sending me some slight ray of hope, but his tone of voice suggested that being hopeful may not be the most foolish of endeavours.

He told me to stay tuned, so I choose to interpret that as a definite maybe. At least it wasn’t a flat out ‘No’. For now, unfortunately the answer to the question posed in the headline is a mystery, but we remain hopeful.

Star Wars: Battlefront will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 17 November 2015.
