You would expect the President of Sony Worldwide Studios to be right behind its biggest new venture, so it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that Shuhei Yoshida has a lot of positive things to say about Project Morpheus, Sony’s entry into the increasingly crowded VR market.
Speaking to the Official Playstation Magazine UK (and transcribed by Dualshockers) Yoshida talked about the broad scope of VR but pointed to the tight integration of Sony controlled platforms as a strength of their hardware. Project Morpheus will work “very tightly” with the PS4 to focus on gaming performance before Sony starts to look at other uses for the technology.
Hopefully Sony has learned some lessons from the failure of 3D and will work harder to make VR an enhancment to your gaming experience rather than a novelty. It will be very interesting to see if Sony’s controlled approach leads to improved technical performance over the more open development environments of their competitors.
