NBA 2K14 servers restored with online services extended for future titles

Last week publisher 2K shut down the servers for NBA 2K14 after 18 months, which has become standard practice for the franchise. However, in this case, the shutdown meant that players couldn’t access their career mode saves which meant even playing offline wasn’t possible.

2K stated in March that when the servers were shutdown “Online files will not disappear, but rather they will turn to offline saves and earn skill points as opposed to VC.”Once the servers were shutdown though, it became clear this was not the case with users receiving an email from 2K stating, “If you had created a MyCareer or a MyGM online save file that was once connected to our servers it too sadly has retired and is no longer available for use and it would be necessary to re-create these files as offline saves.

“Sadly this may come as an inconvenience to some of you and if so we truly do understand and can feel for how upsetting this may seem as there always is a special bond that occurs between a player and their MyCareer save but all good things must come to an end and rest assured your MyCareer or MyGM went out while on top.”

Now, in a statement to GameInformer 2K has said that the servers have been reinstated which should restore players’ saves. In addition, the new policy for for NBA 2K servers is to support them for 27 months rather than the previous 18. “2K has restored the NBA 2K14 servers and all online services. Beginning today, we are extending the support of all NBA 2K servers from 18 to 27 months following each release, giving our players more time to experience and enjoy the highest rated NBA simulation video game franchise. The opinions of our community continue to have a positive impact on our business decisions as we strive to create the best possible experience for all of our fans.”

NBA 2K14 is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
