Destiny: “House of Wolves” allows players to upgrade old weapons and armour

During Bungie’s livestream of the “House of Wolves” expansion earlier today it was revealed that any old legendary and exotic gear will be upgradeable to the highest possible level.

A new upgrade path called ‘Ascend’ will allow weapons to increase their max damage to 365 — up from 331– while armour can level players up to the new cap of 34. In addition, when levelling up weapons and armour through the Ascension path will not reset perk progression or any unlocked perks.

To ‘Ascend’ legendary gear, players will need Glimmer and to collect a new resource called Etheric Light. Etheric Light will drop in “House of Wolves” non-Raid; the Prison of Elders. It will also drop in the Trials of Osiris PvP. Players will occasionally find the new resource in Nightfall and Iron Banner events.

Exotic weapons and armour won’t require Etheric Light and will instead use one Exotic Shard along with an assortment of other resources. Players will no longer need to visit Xur to upgrade Exotic gear and he will no longer offer the service as it’s been replaced by the new system in “House of Wolves.”

Players will have a much easier time collecting resources as the Speaker will allow the trading of Ascendant and Radiant Shards for their energies. Players will also be able to trade the other way, i.e. energy for Shards. The Speaker will also allow players to purchase Shards for Motes of Light.

Legendary weapons featured in “House of Wolves” will be able to be reforged by the Tower’s Gunsmith which will randomise the perks attached to the weapons.

“House of Wolves” will be available 19 May.

Destiny is available now for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
