Nintendo partners with DeNA to make games for smartphones

Late yesterday, Nintendo confirmed a partnership with mobile developer DeNA that will create smartphone games using the likes of Mario, Samus and other iconic Nintendo IP.

The new partnership means original games will be produced for smartphones. All Nintendo IP can be used in production of the new titles.

“Both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo’s IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices,” Nintendo said via statement.

“To ensure the quality of game experience that consumers expect from this alliance of Nintendo and DeNA, only new original games optimised for smart device functionality will be created, rather than porting games created specifically for the Wii U home console or the Nintendo 3DS portable system.”

It’s unclear as to which games will be developed, and for when.
