New Ultra Rapid Fire crawls into League of Legends

Ah yes, 1 April*, the most wonderful day on the internet. The day that Half-Life 3 and Fallout 4 both get confirmed, Blizzard games get some cracking new features and exciting new game modes hit League of Legends.

This year Riot Games are bringing out the big guns, reworking the smash hit Ultra Rapid Fire mode from last year into a much more tactical slow paced format.

“Normally, a League match is a fast-paced slugfest that ranges from top to bottom lane and across Summoner’s Rift,” Riot said of the new game type. “We want to broaden the pool of high-level talent to include expert tacticians previously excluded by something so trivial as the necessity of hyper-twitch reflexes.”

Wow, look at those changes. The increased cooldowns will make every skill shot count and, when combined with disgusting mana costs, will create a game truly reminiscent of Chess. I think this video describes it best.

Last year’s joke game mode Ultra Rapid Fire was a smash hit. The combination of almost no skill cooldowns, no mana costs and crazy attack speed made for some truly memorable games. Whether or not N.U.R.F. hits that kind of popularity remains to be seen. Check out the full announcement here for more details.

With April 1st tomorrow remember not to believe everything you read on the internet.

*Yeah, we know people are a day early. We don’t understand it either.
