Microsoft loses trademark on supplementary Viva Pinata properties, retains software trademark

A Reddit post earlier today suggested that Microsoft had lost the trademark to Viva Pinata.

Reddit user brandonls3 suggested that trademark had been lost after spotting a cancellation notice on Justia Trademarks, a trademark aggregator.

DualShockers reported that the trademark had been lost, however Reddit user Steven1090 was quick to respond to the original post with a link to Justia Trademarks, showing the Viva Pinata trademark for software is still current and held by Microsoft.

The image above and what brandonls3 had discovered was only in reference to “publications, namely, strategy guides for video games, user manuals for video games, all in the fields of children’s stories, games, television programs, movies and entertainment, all non-bilingual, all marketed to promote videogames, television programs and related characters, and all sold and marketed to the general public through general online and retail store outlets.”

While this means that Microsoft no longer has the trademark for guides, manuals, and printed materials related to the television series and potential films, it still retains the trademark for software and games. Whether this means a new Viva Pinata is on the way from Rare or not remains to be seen.
