HBO’s Looking set to feature the GaymerX convention in upcoming episode

Gaming is once again going to feature on a television show, but not even remotely in the negative way GamerGate featured on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Rather, HBO’s Looking will feature the LGBT gaming convention, GaymerX, in an upcoming episode.

“We always try to draw on real San Francisco events for the show and we were impressed with the passion and eclecticism of the GaymerX queer community,” said Looking Director Michael Lannan. “We loved that the conference is more about fun, camaraderie and weirdness than pure commerce. It felt like a natural fit for our characters and we were very pleased to end up working with the GaymerX team and their partners.”

“I’m so used to stories taking place in New York or Los Angeles. Looking not only takes place in San Francisco but in a way that really carries the spirit of San Francisco,” GaymerX organiser Matt Conn added. “It’s really authentic, like that. As someone in the city [of San Francisco] who went from tech into gaming, it actually feels like I’m up there on the screen. That’s my story they’re telling.”

The episode featuring GaymerX is set to air on 7 March at 9pm PST on HBO. GaymerX’s GX3 is set for 11-13 December 2015 at its new location of San Jose, California.
