Sonic Boom explodes in Sega Sammy’s face

Sega’s parent company, Sega Sammy, announced in its quarterly earnings report that Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U) and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (3DS) sold just 490,000 copies — combined — over Christmas.

That makes Sonic Boom one of the lowest-selling games of the entire Sonic franchise.

Moreover, the company reported a loss of 13 billion yen ($141,190,010 AUD) last year.

In better news, The Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation sold 1.76 millions during the holiday season, and Football Manager 2015 640,000 copies.

In 2013, Sonic: Lost World, released on both Wii U and 3DS, sold 640,000 copies during the its holiday debut. In 2011, Sonic Generations sold 1.63 million copies in a comparable time.

Do you think Sonic’s rebranding has fallen flat?
