Report: Netflix and Nintendo collaborating on live-action Legend of Zelda series

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Netflix and Nintendo are developing a live-action series together and according to a source it will be Game of Thrones for a family audience.

The series is in the very early stages according to the source with Netflix still seeking writers for the show. It’s also been reported that Netflix is working closely with Nintendo on the series, which is welcome news.

In January 2014, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told investors that the company planned to use its range of character IP more widely and more actively. Since then we’ve seen the release of Hyrule Warriors (developed by Tecmo Koei) and the very successful launch of amiibo.

Nintendo has dabbled in live-action and cartoon series in the past with Super Mario Bros. hitting both the big and small screens and a Legend of Zelda cartoon airing in 1989. The Zelda cartoon was infamous for portraying Link as an oaf who’d spout his catchphrase, “Well! Excuuuuuuse me, Princess!” when rejected by Zelda.

Netflix declined to comment on the rumour and Nintendo gave their standard response that it “doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation.”

What do you think of a live-action Zelda?
