Windows 10: Windows 7, 8.1 users will get a free upgrade in the OS’ first year

At their Windows 10 event, Microsoft confirmed that it’ll will offer a free upgrade to Windows 10 to existing users of Windows 7 and 8.1. Also offered to Windows Phone 8.1 users, the free upgrade will be offered for one year from the launch of the new OS.

“Once a device is upgraded to Windows 10, we’ll be keeping it current for the supported lifetime for the device,” Terry Myerson, Chief of Operating Systems said.

Windows 10 is set to launch later this year. The operating system has a number of new gaming applications attached to it.
