Esports Results: League of Legends Championship Series Week 1

The League of Legends Championship Series kicked off in North America and Europe over the weekend, marking the start of the 2015 Spring Split. Plenty of roster changes and new teams in both regions made for an exciting first weekend with more than a couple of upsets. A warning, there will be spoilers ahead.

The North American LCS opened with the battle of the titans, pitting immensely popular teams Cloud 9 and Team Solomid Mid against each other for first honours. Despite the hype of the match Cloud 9 looked entirely off their game and fell to a powerful TSM. Cloud 9 would go on to have a horrid weekend, losing to freshly qualified team Gravity to put themselves at 0W – 2L after the first weekend.

Almost all other teams finished the weekend 1W – 1L with the exception of Team Liquid who stand alone on 2W – 0L. Team Liquid played this first weekend with a substitute in their Marksman position and still performed incredibly well. Their regular Marksman and former world champion Piglet rejoins them next weekend which will leave Team Liquid as a force to be reckoned with.

The North American game to watch for this week is Cloud 9 Vs Gravity. Keane, the Mid Laner for Gravity, is a former Oceanic professional player and takes on Cloud 9s Hai on one of Hais favourite champions, Zed.

The first European LCS game saw a fresh-faced Fnatic line-up taking on Elements, the team formerly known as Alliance. Elements were heavy favourites to take the victory, but an incredible performance from the new Fnatic Mid Laner Febiven combined with a lacklustre game from Elements Top Laner Wickd saw Fnatic score a big win.

Fnatic went on to finish the weekend with a record of 2W – 0L, with Giants Gaming and SK Gaming also managing a 2 – 0 record. The European game to watch is SK Gaming Vs ROCCAT. SK secured several power picks in their draft, including the Gnar – Jarvan IV combo.
