Nintendo has shipped 50 million 3DSes and 9 million Wii Us

Nintendo recently hosted a financials call, highlighting the success of the New 3DS.

According to the publisher, the New 3DS is off to a “good start”, shipping 1.84 million units of the normal and XL varieties in Japan and Australia over 2014. The handheld has yet to be released in other markets, but that’s soon to change in February with The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and its special edition New 3DS XL.

The New 3DS sales have helped push the total amount of 3DSes shipped worldwide to over 50 million units.

The Wii U’s picking up some momentum as well, shipping 1.91 units worldwide between October to December 2014. Its lifetime total of units shipped is now at 9.2 million.

On the software front, 2014’s big-sellers were, unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. The Wii U version of Smash sold 3.39 units worldwide in 2014, coming second to MK8 with 4.77 million units.
